As reported in OSA's open-access journal Optics Express, team of researchers from Taiwan and Mexico has developed lighting system design that utilizes high-efficiency LEDs and ensures they shine only where needed. This spares surrounding homes and evening sky from unwanted illumination. "High-performance LED street lighting using microlens arrays" co-author Ching-Cherng Sun said system offers adaptability to different street lamp layouts and is based on 3-part lighting fixture.
