New Zealand proposes shift to utility-style telco regulation

2016-07-12 10:19:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The New Zealand government has opened a consultation on an overhaul of the country's telecom regulation, proposing a new 'utility-style' framework for fixed-line services after 2020. This follows earlier consultation with industry in 2015 and a number of high-level decisions in April this year. The new consultation, held by the Ministry of Business, is open for comment until 19 August. Chorus, the wholesale operator of the country's fixed network, welcomed the release of the government's proposal and said it "represents another step towards enabling better broadband" in New Zealand. The new model would apply both to fixed-line copper and fibre wholesale access services.
