Officials ask federal board to help on rail delays

2014-09-05 03:41:17| Railroads - Topix.net

North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple opened a federal hearing in Fargo about rail service delays in the upper Plains by reading a letter from a grain elevator that said Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. was 525 cars behind in its service. The Wilton Farmers Union Elevator also told the governor that as of last month it was still waiting for a train that had been scheduled to arrive on April 8. That backlog has caused what Dalrymple told the National Surface Transportation Board on Thursday was an "emergency situation" - acres of corn, soybeans and wheat are at record levels in the Dakotas and Minnesota, but there's no place to move it.
