Barclay Simpson, the founder and longtime chairman of Pleasanton-based Simpson Manufacturing Co., a 12-year member of the BART Board of Directors and a key figure on the central Contra Costa arts and philanthropic scenes, died Nov. 8 at age 93 after a battle with bone cancer. Simpson, an Orinda resident for over 50 years, is being remembered not only for his success in building a worldwide construction materials company but for then giving many millions of dollars to more than 30 charities and civic causes.
