PEDV Hits Canada--What Happens Next?

By Steve Meyer, Paragon Economics, Inc., Adel, IA The big news this week is, of course, the discovery of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) in Canada. The virus was confirmed last Thursday to be present in a 500-sow farrow-to-finish operation in Ontario. Canada also reported that two samples from a loading dock at a Quebec slaughter plant had tested positive earlier in the week. Late last week there was no apparent connection between the two incidents but there is talk this morning that they may be related. read more
