Sam Griner uses a gold pan in Foster Gulch Creek Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015 while mining near Rockerville, S.D. Nelson is a hobbyist gold miner and a member of the Black Hills Prospecting Club. A U.S. Forest Service proposal would ban new gold mining claims at 11 sites in the Black Hills National Forest.
