RF Micro's improved earnings come as the company expects to complete its merger with TriQuint Semiconductor later this year, forming a new company, Qorvo. The Triad saw many merger announcements in 2014, but one of the most noteworthy is a pending deal between Greensboro-based RF Micro Devices Inc. and Hillsboro, Ore.-based TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. News broke in early 2014 that RF Micro Devices Inc. planned a merger of equals with TriQuint in a deal that would create a top competitor in wireless component industry.
