Rdio sells technology to Pandora, files for bankruptcy

2015-11-17 09:13:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Pandora has agreed to buy technology and intellectual property from Rdio, a music streaming company, for USD 75 million in cash, subject to certain price adjustments. The deal is contingent upon Rdio filing for bankruptcy. If the transaction is approved by the bankruptcy court, Rdio will wind down its Rdio-branded services in all markets. Pandora noted that it will not be acquiring the operating business of Rdio, only the technology. Pandora will offer many members of Rdio's team roles at the company, subject to close of the agreement. The company expects to offer an expanded Pandora listening experience by late 2016, pending its ability to obtain proper licenses.
