In response to pace of change over past 6 years regarding laboratory informatics, scope of ASTM E1578, Guide for Laboratory Informatics, has been broadened to include primary tools in today's laboratory informatics area. Additional terms related to laboratory informatics are defined, and new sections, including one on lean concepts and lab informatics, have been added.
