Safeway closing 9 stores in metro Denver

Safeway is closing nine locations across metro Denver, citing non-profitability as the main reason for the decision, according to a letter obtained by the DBJ. Kristine J. Staaf , director of public affairs/government relations for Pleasanton, California-based Safeway , confirmed the closures, saying the company has spent more than a year evaluating ways to help the stores improve their performance.
