Safeway pulls out of popular program supporting schools, nonprofits

The move represents the loss of a significant source of fundraising for schools and other nonprofits. Just last February, eScrip and Safeway issued a press release touting the $18 million annually that the grocer contributed to schools through San Mateo-based eScrip.
