(Telecompaper) Samsung has confirmed its first "smartwatch" will launch on 04 September in Berlin, ahead of the annual Ifa consumer electronics show. In an interview with the Korea Times, Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile business, said that the smartwatch, named Galaxy Gear, will use a non-flexible display.
She said the device is mainly targeted at young trendsetters. Lee also confirmed that a Galaxy Note 3 will make its international debut at Ifa, but declined to provide further details on the new products. The executive also made it clear that Samsung has no interest in acquiring BlackBerry, which has been put up for sale. "Samsung Electronics is not considering that opportunity," she said without elaborating further. Lee also said that Samsung will focus on strengthening its position in the mobile security industry, where it sees growth potential.
