Just a decade ago, the domestic chemical industry was in decline as natural gas prices were high and estimated reserves low. Of the more than 40 chemical manufacturing plants being built worldwide in the mid-2000's of more than $1 billion capitalization, none were under construction in the U.S. Due primarily to the shale gas revolution, the fortunes of the domestic chemical industry have changed radically.
