THREE YEARS ago in Afghanistan, Christopher Brown wasn't thinking about wandering the streets of Philadelphia, taking eye-to-eye, soul-to-soul photographs of homeless people. He was taking pictures of Afghan sunsets to escape from the human devastation he saw as a Boeing Co.
