A team of French researchers has found a way to make a thermal infrared camera with a lens made of silicon. Lens is as thick as a fingernail with diameter less than that of a No. 2 pencil. Camera has 130° field of view, f-number of 1.5, and is effective over wide range of IR wavelengths, from 7–14 µm. Potential applications include more affordable surveillance, particularly for home use. Researchers describe their new work in a paper published in The Optical Society’s journal Optics ...This story is related to the following:Trade Associations
