The world’s largest producer of pork is experiencing a historical downsizing of its hog herd. China has been culling hogs to the tune of nearly 100 million hogs and 10 million in its breeding herd over a two-year span, reports Rabobank Food & Agribusiness Research in a recently released report, “China’s Incredible Shrinking Hog Herd.” That’s a total that is equivalent to the United States’, Canada’s and Mexico’s hog inventory combined (see figure below). read more
