(Telecompaper) Japanese communications carrier Softbank saw its net income soar by 125.7 percent in the first quarter ended 30 June to JPY 238.26 billion from JPY 105.58 billion a year earlier. Net sales grew 21.4 percent to JPY 881.07 billion from JPY 725.94 billion. The growth was mainly due to the impact of making GungHo Online Entertainment and eAccess subsidiaries, as well as increases in the number of subscribers and the number of units sold at SoftBank Mobile. Domestic mobile communications sales went up 26.8 percent to JPY 661.92 billion. Softbank added 810,000 mobile subscribers in the quarter, bringing its total to 33.29 million. Unit eAccess ended the quarter with 4.34 million mobile subscribers, up from 4.14 a year earlier, and Willcom had 5.20 million subscribers, up from 4.69 million. Domestic fixed telecommunications sales stood at JPY 133.41 billion, up 4.3 percent year-on-year and internet sales grew 18.9 percent to JPY 96.20 billion.
