BusinessGreen: A disused coal mine in Wales is set to be transformed into a giant solar farm capable of powering 2,400 homes. The site at Hendai Farm has been purchased by Conergy from developer Solar Securities, along with a second smaller site in Cornwall. Conergy intends to build a 13.5MW plant across 74 acres of boggy and unproductive slopes beneath the old coal mine, which was closed in the late 1970s, filled 30 to 50 metres deep with coal mine refuse, and then covered with a thin layer of topsoil.
