Sonoco under investigation amid competition concerns after Weidenhammer acquisition

The UK Government Competition and Markets Authority has started an investigation after it found Sonoco's acquisition of Weidenhammer Packaging Group gives rise to 'a realistic prospect of a substantial lessening of competition'. Sonoco and Weidenhammer both manufacture and supply composite cans for food products such as gravy granules, chocolate powder, crisps, crackers and coffee.
