(Telecompaper) US mobile operator Sprint reported USD 8.88 billion of revenues in the second quarter, compared to USD 8.84 billion a year earlier. The company's operating loss widened to USD 874 million from USD 629 million in the second quarter of 2012. It recorded a pretax loss of USD 1.54 billion, versus USD 1.35 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Sprint Nextel made a USD 1.6 billion net loss in the second quarter (USD 0.53 loss per share), including approximately USD 430 million of depreciation and USD 623 million of non-cash charges related to the Nextel platform shutdown. Sprint had 53.38 million mobile customers at the end of June, including 30.45 million postpaid, 15.22 million prepaid and 7.71 million wholesale and affiliate subscribers. The Nextel platform was shut down on 30 June, with a postpaid Nextel recapture rate of 34 percent.
