Sugar mill fire sends flames shooting into air

2013-05-31 09:33:04| Sugar Industry News

Authorities said the fire ignited about 8:15 p.m. in a turbine at Okeelanta Mill off U.S. Highway 27 in South Bay. Workers said they saw flames shooting 50 feet into the air. Palm Beach Fire Department Capt. Albert Borroto said the mill has its own power plant, and that's where the turbine was located. The plant and the sugar mill were evacuated. Workers cut off the oil to the turbine, and the fire was quickly extinguished.
