(Telecompaper) Telefonica Deutschland has confirms market rumours regarding negotiations on a possible acquisition of KPN's German mobile operator E-Plus from KPN. KPN would only confirm that is in talks with an unnamed party. Details of a potential transaction are still being negotiated. The confirmation follows a report in the Financial Times citing two people close the negotiations. Those people claim that Telefonica will end up with a stake of more than 50 per cent in the combined entity, two of the people said. The deal is said to have the backing of Carlos Slim, KPN's largest shareholder, one of the people said. The transaction may be financed partly in equity and cash with Telefonica paying about EUR 6 billion, creating an enterprise value of around EUR 16 billion.
