(Telecompaper) Telefonica plans to launch smartphones running the Firefox OS from Mozilla in seven countries this year. The Mozilla OS is already available on phones in Venezuela, Colombia and Spain and will be launched in Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay by the end of this year or the beginning of 2014 at the latest, El Mundo reports, citing Carlos Domingo, CEO of Telefonica I+D (Telefonica R&D). Worldwide, Firefox OS is expected to be launched in 14 countries in the coming months, in the Telefonica, Deutsche Telekom and Telenor networks. According to Domingo, Firefox aims to become the third OS by market share in Latin America, where the penetration of smartphones is not as high as it is in Europe.
