(Telecompaper) South African operator Telkom confirmed it's in talks to acquire all of mobile operator Cell C. Telkom said in a short statement to the stock market that it's currently performing due diligence on Cell C. Further details of the potential takeover were not disclosed. Controlled by Oger Telecom, Cell C is the third-largest mobile operator in South Africa. By merging with Telkom, the newest arrival on the mobile market, the two could better compete against market leaders MTN and Vodacom. The latest media reports suggest that Oger has valued Cell C at as much as ZAR 22 billion.
