The hashtag "Things Gentrifiers Do" trended on Twitter Monday evening and shed an honest light on what happens when gentrification takes over a predominately black or brown neighborhood. While most may associate obvious gentrification with the addition of a Whole Foods Market, a Wal-Mart or a newly added bike lane, those who participated and added to the hashtag Tweeted the small intricacies and differences that now play a huge part in the day-to-day of lifelong residents of neighborhoods who must now deal with rising rent prices, the shutting down of local businesses and being pushed out of an area they one called home.
