An educational project called Beautiful Minds released America\'s Brain Health Index showing Alabama ranks 50th of 51 for brain health. The project evaluated the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia based on 21 factors, including diet and nutrition, physical health, mental health and social well-being. Alabama\'s low ranking was based on factors such as its high incidence of smoking and diabetes, according to a press release from Beautiful Minds. Alabama\'s strengths include high levels of religious or spiritual activities and adequate amounts of sleep.
