(Telecompaper) Twitter has announced the launch of its new "buy" button, allowing users to purchase products directly from the tweets they receive. The new feature has been introduced initially "for a small percentage of US users", according to the company, and is expected to be rolled out worldwide over time. It represents the first time Twitter has directly taken payment data from its users, with a new page on users' settings inviting them to store their payment methods and listing their order history. "This is an early step in our building functionality into Twitter to make shopping from mobile devices convenient and easy, hopefully even fun," said Twitter in a blog post, adding that "users will get access to offers and merchandise they can't get anywhere else and can act on them right in the Twitter apps for Android and iOS." The company said it has partnered with platforms such as Fancy, Musictoday, Gumroad and Stripe for the initial trial, and that it would add artists, brands and nonprofit organisations such as Pharell, Burberry and RED over the coming weeks.
