New Scientist: Has the US peaked? The latest data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) shows its emissions fell by 3.8 per cent in 2012, to a level not seen since the mid-1990s. According to figures in the IEA's report "Redrawing the Energy-Climate Map", the nation has cut its carbon dioxide emissions in four out of the last five years, largely by switching from coal to natural gas a cleaner fuel. But the encouraging trend could be reversed. US power companies favour gas because it is cheaper than coal...
