Telegraph: Almost 200 birds -- mostly guillemots -- were washed ashore and found covered in a sticky Vaseline-like substance. It is feared thousands more could be floating in the sea, unable to feed because their feathers and wings have become stuck together by the waxy oil.
There was earlier speculation the mystery substance may have been palm oil, but scientists working to identify it have since reported that it is a refined mineral oil.
