Verizon, GE form alliance to connect machines to the cloud

(Telecompaper) General Electric and Verizon have teamed up to connect GE software-enabled machines to the operator's M2M connectivity and cloud platforms and create a secure wireless communications sytem. The announcement was made at GEs Minds + Machines conference in New York. The GE/Verizon alliance will deliver a range of value-added services for GE's Predix platform, including remote monitoring, diagnostics and the ability to resolve maintenance issues virtually anywhere in the world. GE and Verizon will also enter into discussions to collaborate on a single global Sim (subscriber identity module) for global connectivity.
