(Telecompaper) Vodafone Netherlands is preparing to launch faster LTE speeds later this year, under the name 4G+. The company gave demonstration of the LTE Advanced service, which can reach a theoretical maximum of 225 Mbps, at its head office in Amsterdam. 4G+ will launch first in ten cities, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Leiden, Eindhoven, Den Bosch and Schiphol, and reach another 50 medium and small cities around year-end. The service is based on carrier aggregation, combining 10 MHz in the 800 MHz band for up to 75 Mbps and 20 MHz in the 1,800 MHz band for another 150 Mbps. The timing of the launch will depend on the availability of suitable handsets. Vodafone will also start in the second half of this year a pilot of Voice over LTE (VoLTE). It expects to be ready for a commercial launch in mid-2015. All voice calls still go over its 3G network. Its testing HD Voice on the 3G network and hopes to extend the experience to the 4G service.
