Six Hawaii residents are suing the state government for an election that the state says would give native Hawaiians their long-due self government, and they say is unconstitutionally race-based. Mr. Apo and Mr. Ritte are part of a group of Native Hawaiians organizing an election to create a national government for the first time since American businessmen, backed by the US Marines, overthrew the Hawaiian kingdom more than 100 years ago.
