In 1980, Susan Aude and I thought about trying to buy and restore Kensington Mansion, a 12,000-square-foot antebellum home in Eastover that was completed in 1854 and has 29 rooms. Though it looked like a forgotten relic from the Civil War , even in its decrepit state you could see the magnificence that once existed.
