Woolworths chairman Gordon Cairns is facing a hostile reception from angry shareholders despite attempts to appease investors with a series of high-profile hires and by engaging advisers to review assets. The Woolworths board will face retail shareholders on Thursday for the first time since the company slashed profit guidance, announced a series of senior executive departures and revealed plans to invest more than $600 million into grocery prices and service to restore growth in supermarkets.
