American food giant Del Monte now committed to BPA-free, GMO-free products

In what can be considered a victory for the countless Americans who do not wish to consume food that contains toxins, food giant Del Monte has announced that it will start using packaging that does not contain bisphenol A . The canned goods firm, which is based in San Francisco, said that the switch would start with its tomato and fruit products.

Walnut Creek-based Del Monte Foods will stop using the chemical Bisphenol A in its canned products amid consumers' fears that the substance is harmful to their health. Beginning in May, Del Monte fruit and tomato products, as well as nearly 100 percent of its vegetables, will convert to non-BPA can linings.

Campbell Soup to switch to BPA-free cans by 2017

Campbell Soup Co, the world's largest soup maker, said it would completely switch to cans that do not use the chemical bisphenol A for their linings in North America by the middle of 2017. Bisphenol A is used to stiffen plastics that some studies suggest pose health risks.
