The United States on Monday sued New York City and Computer Sciences Corp, accusing them of defrauding Medicaid into making millions of dollars of improper reimbursements by exploiting a computerized billing system that the company designed. According to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, the defendants took advantage of the system's automatic default settings, enabling the city to improperly boost the amount and speed of reimbursements for services provided to infants and toddlers with developmental delays.

New York City's program to create a nearly uniform taxi fleet with cabs from Nissan Motor Co will face a renewed challenge, after fleet operators opposing the "Taxi of Tomorrow" plan won permission to take their case to the state's highest court. In a brief order on Thursday, the state appeals court in Manhattan that had in June authorized the plan said the operators may challenge that ruling before the New York State Court of Appeals in Albany.

New York City's subways had five days of record ridership last month, and those in charge of the public transportation system have seized on the increased usage to push their multi-billion dollar capital plan. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced Wednesday that the subway system broke its single-day ridership record on five days last month.
