Despite economic worries, paper market prospects look positive to European, US CEOs

The European and the US paper packaging market environment remains in a reasonably good shape this year despite certain headwinds, CEOs of the top European companies and the US's Graphic Packaging said during a panel discussion at the RISI European conference held on February 29 - March 2 in Berlin. The panelists, which included Smurfit Kappa Group CEO Tony Smurfit, Sappi Europe CEO Berry Wiersum, Progroup CEO JA1 4rgen Heindl and chairman of Graphic Packaging David Scheible, agreed that despite some overall worries in the financial and political circles of challenging times ahead, consumer spending power is likely to remain positive giving a boost to growing packaging demand.

Dow, DuPont CEOs to get $80 mln in "golden parachute" payouts

DowDuPont, the entity to be created by the merger of DuPont with Dow Chemical Co, said the chief executives of the two companies would get a combined $80 million in "golden parachute" payments after DowDuPont splits into three. "Golden parachute" payments are contracts that give a top executive substantial benefits if the company is taken over and their employment is terminated as a result.
Stamford giant extends CEO's contract

Stamford-based Charter Communications added a year to the employment contract for CEO Tom Rutledge , as the company works to complete its $57 billion acquisition of New York City-based Time Warner Cable . Rutledge, whose contract had been slated to expire on Feb. 13, will now see his deal run through February 2017, with Charter stating it expects to work out a five-year agreement with him.
