Oregon business and legislative leaders agree state should raise vehicle taxes

Oregon legislative leaders and business groups expressed strong support Tuesday for increasing vehicle taxes to provide more money for transportation projects. The clear backing among the state's key political and business figures for hiking transportation taxes was highlighted at the annual Oregon Leadership Summit , which attracted more than 1,100 to the all-day conference at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

DuPont, Monsanto agree to settle patent lawsuits

Two of the biggest U.S. agribusiness companies say they have agreed to settle their patent-infringement lawsuits against each other that had been pending in a St. Louis federal court. St. Louis-based Monsanto had claimed that DuPont had infringed upon certain Monsanto patents for determining a seed's genetics.

Vermont regulator, FairPoint agree to repair plans

The Vermont Department of Public Service says FairPoint Communications has agreed to take steps to ensure timely repairs for those most vulnerable who are without phone service while a workers' strike continues. The department said Friday that it has received more than 700 complaints about FairPoint's service since workers went on strike in October.

Duke Energy, green group agree on cleaning up ash at S.C. coal plant

The W.S. Lee coal plant will close soon as Duke Energy replaces it with a new combined-cycle natural gas plant. Duke Energy will excavate all 3.2 million tons of ash at the soon-to-be-closed W.S. Lee Steam Station in Upstate South Carolina and bury it in a lined landfill.
