The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality fined the Tillamook County Creamery Association $56,532 for wastewater violations at its dairy products processing facility at 4185 Highway 101 North in Tillamook. DEQ issued the penalty because the association exceeded its wastewater discharge permit limitations for biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids and bacteria, specifically E. coli.

Federal Aviation Administration proposes civil penalties against 3 companies for allegedly violating Hazardous Materials Regulations. In each case, FAA alleges shipments were not accompanied by shipping papers to indicate hazardous nature of their contents and were not marked, labeled, or packaged in accordance with the Hazardous Materials Regulations. Proposed penalties against DGI Menard Inc., Aqua-Chem, Inc., and Rust-Oleum Corp range from $54,000 to $81,669.

AK Steel says it wants to be a "good neighbor" in Dearborn, where residents near the plant have long complained pollution. The new owners of a Dearborn steel mill considered one of the most egregious polluters in the state will pay $1.35 million to settle dozens of alleged air pollution violations with state and federal regulators, the Justice Department said Wednesday.

An Ohio-based steelmaker has agreed to pay $1.35 million to settle environmental violations at a Dearborn plant alleged by the federal government and state of Michigan. The agreement with AK Steel was announced Wednesday by the U.S. Justice Department, which says the violations of the Clean Air Act occurred under the previous owner of the plant.
