Marin County: West I-580 closed after after big-rig fire near San Quentin

Both eastbound lanes of Interstate Highway 580 have reopened following a full closure of the highway in both directions after a United Parcel Service big-rig crashed Friday morning in the San Quentin Prison area, the California Highway Patrol said. One of the big-rig's two trailers, which contained 50,000 pounds of packages, caught fire, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.

Marin Clean Energy signs new contract that cuts carbon emissions

Marin Clean Energy has signed a new $20 million contract with Calpine Corp. that will further reduce the carbon emissions produced by the electricity it sells to its customers. Under the 33-month agreement, Marin Clean Energy has the option of buying between 10 megawatts and 15 megawatts of electricity from Houston-based Calpine.
