Monsanto clears USDA regulatory hurdle for new GMO corn

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Friday signed off on a new genetically modified type of corn developed by Monsanto Co after a review concluded it posed no significant threat to agricultural crops, other plants or the environment. The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced it would deregulate Monsanto's MON 87411 maize, which was developed to protect plants against corn rootworms that can damage roots and drag down grain yields and be tolerant to the herbicide glyphosate.

German regulator clears sale of Here to car makers

(Telecompaper) Germany's Federal Cartel Office has approved the sale of Nokia's digital mapping and location services business Here to a consortium of German car makers. Nokia announced the sale to BMW, Daimler and Audi in August. The Cartel Office concluded that the deal would not impact on the ability of Here's rival TomTom to sell digital maps and location services to car makers.
