Apple's Painful Cry in the Wilderness
2013-03-21 13:00:00| TechNewsWorld
When I first heard about Apple's new "Why iPhone" marketing page that went live shortly after Samsung's big Galaxy S4 smartphone launch, I thought, "Uh oh, Apple's really playing defense." The page makes it clear that Apple is either worried about the rising power of Samsung, or misguided in how it can best do battle with the Korean superstar.

04.18: Dandelion Hunter: Foraging the Urban Wilderness
2013-03-15 00:36:45| Powells Books Events Calendar
In Dandelion Hunter: Foraging the Urban Wilderness (Lyons Press), an engaging and eye-opening read, forager-journalist Rebecca Lerner sets out on a quest to find her inner hunter-gatherer in the city of Portland, Oregon. After a disheartening week trying to live off wild plants from the streets and parks near her home, she learns the ways of the first people who lived there and, along with a quirky cast of characters, discovers an array of useful wild plants hiding in plain sight. As she harvests them for food, medicine, and just-in-case apocalypse insurance, Lerner delves into anthropology, urban ecology, and sustainability, and finds herself looking at nature in a very different way. Humorous, philosophical, and informative, Dandelion Hunter has something for everyone, from the curious neophyte to the seasoned forager. This event is sponsored by Edible Portland.

Adelaide Chen reports that over time, they hope to show climate change in action. Transcript CURWOOD: Artists have long understood the power of the image to engage and demonstrate abstractions that can be hard to grasp. That's the idea behind a new public art installation at the San Jose airport in California. It's part Ansel Adams and part science experiment. Artists are taking...
