By layering thin film of electrochromic polymer over aluminum nanograting, NIST researchers have developed a new technology for building power-sipping full-color video displays, switches and routers for optical signals, as well as smart windows and coatings. In their setup, light first encounters nanograting which, depending on spacing of slits, filters out all but one color of light. Electrochromic coating serves to modulate that light by allowing all or some (or none) of it to pass.

Cavities allow positioning of electronic components to give assembled PCB thinner structure. Applied to multilayer PCBs, process allows variations and layouts with several cavities and different depths (if desired) on one circuit board. Cavities can be made using Controlled Depth Routing, sequential lamination with low- or no-flow prepregs, or laser.

Made of hard aluminum and anodized in hardcoat flat black to provide inert surface with absolute flatness, Heated Perforated Vacuum Bed Table creates smooth thin films of paint, lacquers, and other materials on sample specimen. Table surface is perforated with grid of small holes which hold test specimen in position when attached to vacuum pump or line. With built-in heating mat, temperature of table can be elevated up to +100°C above ambient, ensuring even temperature distribution.
