The Downtown Columbia Partnership is presenting Festive Fridays, family friendly holiday entertainment produced by the Columbia Festival of the Arts, on Dec. 4, 11 and 18, 5-8 p.m., at the Lakefront Promenade in Downtown Columbia. Musical groups, carolers, strolling entertainers, scavenger hunt with prizes, giveaways and free hot chocolate and cookies courtesy of Whole Foods Market will be featured.

DOT asks to join lakefront lawsuit to protect right to sell Clybourn site to Johnson Controls

The state of Wisconsin wants to join the lawsuit against Preserve Our Parks to protect the right to sell land on East Clybourn Street for a future development, potentially to Johnson Controls Inc. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will move two highway ramps on the Lake Interchange to open 2.5 acres possibly for a significant development on downtown Milwaukee's lakefront. The site is south of East Clybourn Street at Lincoln Memorial Drive.

If the city's redevelopment of Lake Vista is likened to a marathon, then Oak Creek just reached another checkpoint. The city became the formal owner of the nearly 100 acres of Lake Vista lakefront land from its former proprietors E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and EPEC Polymers Inc. as of Friday, Dec. 5. The transfer of ownership of these properties took place at no cost to the city and is the result of a six-year process to prepare Lake Vista land for redevelopment since the two chemical manufacturers closed in Oak Creek.

The city accepted ownership of 98 acres of lakefront, known as Lake Vista, from E.I. Du Pont de Nemours and EPEC Polymers, Inc. as of Friday, Dec. 5. The transfer of these properties took place at no cost to the city and is the result of a six year process to remediate the lakefront for redevelopment. The two chemical manufacturers inhabited the properties in the 1920s and 1930s.
