Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Science Coordinator for Fluid Physical Sciences in the SciSpacE Team, Research and Utilization Group, Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration Programmes. Duties Under the direct authority of the Team Leader, the postholder will be responsible for inputs to programmatic and strategic planning, for the endtoend science coordination of projects in the physical sciences, and for the following tasks notably coordinating the physical sciences discipline by setting priorities, delegating scientific guidance tasks, stimulating feedback and encouraging personal growth promoting synergy and efficient collaboration with the Teams other science disciplines maintaining direct contact with the scientific community, monitoring developments in and defining the research strategy for the physical sciences defining the scientific content and priorities for research announcements overseeing initiation and management of topical teams, applied research and EC projects overseeing research projects, including relevant hardware and mission implementation steps acting as Project Scientist for selected projects representing ESA in the International Microgravity Strategic Planning Group IMSPG, coordinating international activities in the physical sciences acting as Executive Secretary for ESAs Physical Sciences Working Group PSWG and supporting the advisory groups of other ESA Directorates supporting the reporting to ESA delegate and administrative bodies supporting the promotion of results via scientific publications, organised workshops, symposia, etc. Technical competencies Knowledge of scientific discipline, including strategic vision of the area of Fluid Physical science Knowledge of large international scientific research collaborations, preferably using spacebased techniques Knowledge of space projects, including instrumentation and operations Knowledge of international scientific community Experience in supporting ESA programmesprojects and knowledge of their technical and programmatic requirements in relevant technical domains Project and technical management Behavioural competencies Ambassadorship Communication Relationship Management Systems Broader Business Thinking Teamwork Innovation Creativity Education Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant physical sciences discipline. Additional requirements Applicants should have demonstrated experience in physical sciences project management. Personal research experience in the physical sciences. Handson experience with spaceflight experiments and knowledge of endtoend implementation of ISS research. Experience of other platforms such as sounding rockets, drop towers and parabolic flight is an additional asset. Demonstrated leadership capability and a developed relationship management skills. A resultsoriented approach to working in a complex environment and a strong capacity for planning and organising tasks. Candidates should be system minded, able to work in an interdisciplinary team and have good communication skills.
