Austin biotech firm seeks $15M on Wall Street to continue fight against cancer

The Austin-based health diagnostics company focused on tests for ovarian cancer has priced a common stock offering of 8.35 million shares at $1.96 per share, the company said Tuesday. Net proceeds are expected to be about $15.2 million.

Researchers identify five recurrent fusion genes involved in acute gastritis and cancer

Studying the gastric cancers of 15 Southeast Asian patients, researchers at The Jackson Laboratory, the Genome Institute of Singapore and other institutions identified five recurrent fusion genes, one of which appears to lead to cellular changes involved in acute gastritis and cancer. Worldwide, close to a million cases of gastric cancers are diagnosed each year, and some of the world's highest incidence rates are in Asia .

RTP drug co. hears good news on drug to help pediatric cancer patients

Fennec Pharmaceuticals, Inc. reported positive safety data on an experimental drug that could prevent hearing loss in pediatric cancer patients. Based in Research Triangle Park, Fennec is developing a drug that would prevent hearing loss in patients who receive cisplatin, a common treatment that attacks cancers in children.
