Statistics show slight increase in fatal aviation accidents.

According to NTSB's preliminary statistics, fatal general aviation accidents increased slightly from 222 in 2013 to 253 in 2014, and overall number of general aviation accidents decreased slightly from 1,224 in 2013 to 1,221 in 2014. Despite reporting fewer accidents, accident rate for general aviation aircraft increased from 6.26 per 100,000 flight hours in previous year to 6.74 in 2014. There were 28 accidents involving Part 121 operations and 4 involving scheduled Part 135 operations.

NTSB presents safety seminar on instructional accidents.

On July 11, 2015, NTSB will present seminar highlighting lessons learned from investigations involving instructional accidents. NTSB has developed an understanding of when and how pilot training accidents are likely to occur, through its own investigations and through industry and government research identifying risks involved in solo and dual instructional flights. Seminar will explore causes of accidents, current efforts to prevent them, and resources available to pilots/flight instructors.

Rain appaently causing accidents, power outages, palm tree fire

Thunderstorms are apparently causing scattered power outages and motor vehicle accidents across the Las Vegas Valley. An estimated 1,724 customers were without power as of 4 p.m. according to the NV Energy website.
