Orange Spain hits 1Gbps in 4.5G demo, 50Gbps on fibre network
2019-02-26 09:59:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Orange Spain has taken advantage of its appearance at MWC 2019 to demonstrate that its 4.5G network can reach a theoretical top download speed of nearly 1Gbps thanks to carrier aggregation in the 1,800 MHz, 2,600 MHz and extended 2,600 MHz (50MHz) bands. In a statement, the operator said it used Sony's Xperia X1 smartphone for the trial.

Nokia, STC ink deal to deploy 4.5G across Saudi Arabia
2016-10-18 11:15:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Nokia and STC have signed an agreement to expand high-speed mobile broadband capacity and coverage in Saudi Arabia using Nokia's 4.5G technology. The enhanced network will meet the ever-increasing demands of subscribers across the country, including the millions of visitors who travel to the cities of Mecca and Medina each year, particularly during the Hajj and Ramadan seasons. Nokia has already completed the first phase of the deployment in Mecca and Medina, where it asked to dramatically increase capacity. Using 4.5G technology, including Saudi Arabia's first indoor small cells deployment, STC managed the huge traffic demands during this year's Hajj pilgrimage, which during peak times recorded an increase in 4G traffic of 600 percent compared to 2015.
Nokia unveils 4.5G Pro platform, plans for 4.9G
2016-09-02 11:11:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Nokia has announced the next stage in its LTE development, with the 4.5G Pro platform, and introduced plans for 4.9G, to help operators migrate to 5G. Powered by the Nokia AirScale radio portfolio, 4.5G Pro will deliver ten times the speeds of initial 4G networks, making it possible for operators to offer gigabit peak data rates, the company said. Using extended carrier aggregation techniques across up to five frequency bands, operators will be able to leverage their diverse paired (FDD) and unpaired (TDD) licensed spectrum as well as unlicensed spectrum, in line with local national regulations. While 4.5G Pro focuses on commercial devices expected available in 2017, Nokia is already planning for the next stage with the 4.9G system, which will offer significant capacity and data rate enhancements and network latency reductions, the company said. It will use cloud-based networks with intelligence added to the edge in order to reduce latencies to less than 10msec. The system is also expected to take advantage of new spectrum bands, such as Band 43, Band 42 and the 3.5 GHz band.
