AF&PA and American Wood Council have launched web video explaining what "carbon neutral" means — from a biomass users' perspective — in 90 seconds. Paper and wood products manufacturing facilities use all parts of raw material to not only manufacture products, but also create more than two-thirds of the energy needed to do so. Most often, this involves using manufacturing residuals and combined heat and power technology to maximize efficiency and provide greenhouse gas reduction benefits.

Net neutrality to dominate D.C.'s tech agenda

For the White House, a major win on net neutrality might come at a cost - scuttling everything else on Washington's tech and telecom agenda next year. The Federal Communications Commission is racing to write rules that require Internet service providers to treat all Web traffic equally, and many expect the agency will follow President Barack Obama's call to treat broadband service like a utility.

Cisco, Intel, IBM Anti-Net Neutrality

Reclassifying the Internet as a utility-like service to ensure Net neutrality would "lead to a slowdown, if not a hold, in broadband build out," according to a Telecommunications Industry Association letter sent Wednesday to policymakers in Washington, D.C. Among the 60 TIA member organizations signing the letter were If the U.S. Federal Communications Commission reclassifies Internet service under Title II of the Communications Act of 1934, technology companies developing broadband across the country might reduce their spending by up to $45.5 billion over the next five years because, "if you don't know that you can recover on your investment, you won't make it," according to the letter.

IBM, Intel, Qualcomm join dozens of tech companies to argue against net neutrality

The debate over net neutrality got a touch more heated this week as IBM, Intel, and Qualcomm collectively asked the government not to invoke Title II -- i.e the common carrier provision -- in an attempt to enforce net neutrality. In a joint letter to Congress and the FCC itself, the companies collectively argue that proposed regulation under Title II would damage corporate competitiveness, network upgrades, and the overall customer experience. Unfortunately, they're wrong.
