Airtel sells tower assets in Zambia, Rwanda to IHS

(Telecompaper) Airtel has announced an agreement under which IHS will acquire over 1,100 telecoms towers in Zambia and Rwanda under a ten-year renewable contract. The deal will enable IHS to expand its African tower footprint to over 21,000 across five countries. The agreements will allow Airtel to focus on its core business and customers, enable it to reduce debt, and will significantly lower its capital expenditure on passive infrastructure.

Samsung sells non-core assets, buys back shares

(Telecompaper) Samsung Group has agreed to sell stakes in its units Samsung Techwin and Samsung General Chemicals to Hanwha Group for KRW 1.9 trillion. The proceeds will be reinvested in its core activities. Techwin and General Chemicals are owned by six subsidiaries of Samsung, including Samsung Electronics. Samsung Electronics said its stakes in the Techwin and Chemicals companies are worth KRW 100 billion and KRW 661 billion. Samsung Electronics also announced it will buy back shares valued at KRW 2.19 trillion (USD 2 billion). According to a regulatory filing, Samsung Electronics will buy back 1.65 million common shares and 250,000 preferred shares on the open market by the end of February.

France's Total sells Utica assets to Korean companies for $450 million

France's energy giant Total plans to sell its 25 percent interest in Cardinal Gas Services, a midstream company in Ohio's Utica shale play, to a group of Korean companies for $450 million. Total is selling its stake to Korean energy companies E1 Corp. and a consortium led by Samchully, for about $400 million, plus an estimated price adjustment of $50 million.
